Frequently Asked Questions

Dynamo Product Questions

What is a Dynamo

A dynamo is a small electrical generator that is used to power lights.

What is a Stand Light?

The light will operate at 1/10th brightness for several minutes after you stop moving. The light will dim slowly over a period of time. Lasting up to 1 or 2 hours

How much speed will I lose while using a Hub Dynamo?

An unperceptable amount of speed will be lost when using a hub dynamo.

Our experience is that you will be riding at 17-17.5 mph (engaged) instead of 18 mph (non-dynamo wheel).

How bright is the light at different speeds?

Begins to illuminate, 25% brightness, at 3-4 mph.

75% brightness at 12-14 mph.

100% brightness at 18-20 mph.

Does the light flicker at low speed?

A very slight amount of flicker will happen below 5 mph when the light is switched to the high setting.

The flicker will be more noticable at the same speeds when the light is switched to the low setting.

Battery Product Questions

Why do we use individual rechargeable cell batteries?

Our goal is to provide you with an enduring product. Individual rechargeable cell batteries are commonly available and inexpensive to replace when they get old.

Plus, it is easy and inexpensive to carry along an extra set to extend your runtimes.

In the real world of rough and tumble use, rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries will generally last for 200–300 charging cycles or about 2 years.

Why do we use a rotary power switch?

Ease of use, especially with cold, wet, gloved fingers that are half numb.

What is the low battery sensor telling me?

It’s telling you that your light is going to go out in a few minutes. 15 minutes on full power or 30 minutes on low power.

What happens if I install a battery backwards?

This will not damage the light because there is short circuit protection built into our controls. If (2) or more batteries are backwards then the light won’t turn on. However, If only (1) is backwards then the light will turn on and you will experience an unusually short runtime.

What happens if water gets inside of the battery pack?

The controls in the battery pack are well protected from water. The individual battery cells are not. You should immediately dry out the batteries and the inside of the battery pack as best as possible. Then leave the casing open so it can air dry for several days. Always store the light in a dry and warm place.
